Introduction to The Cosmetic Dental Studios

Dear Patient

Please allow me to introduce myself.

I am Dr A. Khan , the new owner and principle dentist of  the dental practices in Westlake and Gardens Centre which will be known as ‘The Cosmetic Dental Studios.’

I have just recently returned from the U.K after a twelve year period. I worked as Lead Dentist for two of the largest dental corporates in the U.K.  I also acted as a post-graduate tutor and V.T. trainer to newly qualified dentists. I have been qualified for the past thirteen years and have gained a considerable amount of experience in many treatment modalities.

I am passionate about Cosmetic Dentistry , Implantology , Smile Design , Oral Surgery and Endodontics ( Root Canal Therapy) and also ran a dentist-with specialist interest referral practice and accepted patients from all over the U.K. I have completed many courses and have been priviledged  enough to have  worked with some of the very best clinicians from around the world.

I would like to list some of my qualifications and also brief you on my experience.

Qualifications:        

• (B.Sc) BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE 1991(UNIVERSITY OF CAPE  TOWN )Major in Physiology.
• (B.ChD)BACHELOR OF DENTAL SURGERY (Obtained in July 1997).
• (UNIVERSITY OF STELLENBOSCH) Completed BDS I & II at Wits and then Transferred to Stellenbosch from my 3rd year.
• MBChBIII completed in 1999 ,rest of medical degree still pending.
• V.T. Equivalence Certificate (University of Liverpool).
• Certificate in Sedation 1997 S.A.A.D (St. Barts. Hospital, London).
• Certificate in Implantology (Manchester).
• Diploma in Oral Surgery (U.W.C.) ; December 2006-2007.
• Certificate in Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry (Birmingham) 2008.
• Advanced Certificate in Implantology, Sinus Grafting, Bone Augmentation and Perio 2008 (UK).
• Advanced Certificate in Endodontics 2007 (UK).
• Hands-on course with the Extreme Make-over Dentists from the popular Television series ( Extreme Make-Over U.K ).
• Certificates  in Smile Design / Hands-on , Aesthetic Advantage Continuum, Rosenthal Institute, University of New York ( Guy’s Hospital , London).
• Core curriculum with The Dawson Academy for Advanced Dentistry of St. Petersburg, Florida (USA)  , Liverpool and London (UK) (2009 )
• Smile Design,  Occlusion, Achieving Succesful and Predictable Esthetic Outcomes, Centric Relation, Digital Photography, Examination Treatment Planning , Perio and Record Taking. (2009).

I also completed courses in Acupunture , Emergency Medicine and First Aid.
 
My strength fields are Smile Design , Oral surgery including Third Molar Surgery  and Implantology, Endodontics , Prosthodontics and I have embarked  on more complexed rehabilitation restorative cases.

I have completed in excess of 200  implant cases .

I’ve completed advanced  courses in Implantology and  completed a full year  residency course  at The Trafford General Hospital and Oaklands Private Hospital both in Manchester with Astra,Straumann and Friadent mentored  by  Prof .Cemal Ucer at Trafford General Hospital in Manchester (2005/6) . I’ve also attended   an Implantology dissection course by Prof. Stuart Orton-Jones at  Bristol University  . I’m also an active participant and member with the  ADI ( Association of Dental Implantologist/ UK) and attend all there Study Club  meetings and events.
I have also been priviledged enough to attend lectures and hands-on demonstrations by Prof. Fouad Khoury of Munster, Germany , in Autogenous Bone Augmentation and Grafting .

I’m constantly empowering myself by attending as many  courses offered by Astra..
I accept referrals from neighbouring colleagues and also act as a mentor.
I have also completed Advanced Implantology courses in Bone Augmentation, Bone Grafting , Sinus Lifts and Grafting and Perio –Implant courses by Robert Dyas and Connor O’Donegan I am also currently completing my Diploma in Implantology through the Aesthetic and Implant Academy ,and  have spent a day observing renowned Implantologist , Dr Howard Gluckman who is acting as my mentor.
I have completed many endodontic hands-on courses and lectures  and also completed Advanced Courses In Rotary Ni/Ti Endodontics with Jason Bedford and Stephen Godfrey , both highly regarded as some of the best Endodontists in the UK.
I have also attended courses by Stephen Buchanan (USA).

To date I have exceeded doing over 30 000 RCTs with a success rate of above 95%
I am currently also registered for a Diploma in Endodontics.

I have vast experience in Oral surgery, I’ve also completed a PDD ( Diploma in Oral Surgery) 2007 under the guidance of Prof. Jean Morkel and Prof. Gielmie Kariem at UWC.I undertake and do all my own surgery including impacted 3rd molars routinely.
I have completed in excess of 100 cases of Smile Designs including Full rehabilitations involving gingival contouring , esthetic crown lengthening procedures and occlusal rehabilitations and adjustments . I have also worked along side one of the  best Ceramist in the UK.

I’ve completed a year long course in Esthetics and Contemporary Restorative Dentistry with Dominic Hassle (regarded by many as the best Cosmetic Consultant in Europe) covering all aspects of cosmetic dentistry . I’ve also attended lectures and workshops by Michael Wise in London.
I have further completed the Core Curriculum with the Dawson Academy for Advanced  Dentistry which incorporates lectures and practical hands-on classes in : Smile Design, Occlusion, Photography, Centric Relations, Record Taking, Examination, Treatment Planning and Case Selection.
I have been mentored by John Cranham (Virginia, USA) , Glen Du Pont ( St.Peterburg,Florida, USA) , DeWit Wilkerson (Florida, USA) and Ian Buckle (Liverpool, UK). I’ve also attended many lectures on smile design and occlusal rehabilitation of the worn dentition by John Cranham.

My Mentor for Esthetic Design , Morphology and Tooth form and esthetic design and contouring  is Jay Lerner (Palm Beach, Florida ) and I’ve attended his lecture and Hands-On course at the World Esthetic Congress in London 2009.
I’ve also been priviledged enough to complete The Aesthetic Advantage Continuum  by the Rosenthal Institute, University of New York. Guy’s Hospital , London) 2009
I have personally been mentored by World Renown Cosmetic Dentist Larry Rosenthal  (Dentist to the Stars including Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas), Mike Appa , Ken Harris and George Kirtley , this was a hands-on programme where they over-saw and mentored me in Smile Design with all the latest techniques and materials from planning/preparation and cementation on a patient , from start to finish. I’ve also completed Hands-on courses with the Extreme Make-over Dentists from the popular television series ‘ Extreme Make-over U.K.’ Dr.s Ash Parmar and Rahul Doshi .

I continue to do  in excess of 100 hours of CPD per year and want to do as many courses in my areas of interest to still further improve my knowledge , career and most importantly  myself.
I’m currently  registered for diplomas in both Endodontics and Implantology.
